Pause & Create Space During Emotionally Challenging Events

On October 8 2013, Brian Pennie experienced his first day clean after 15 years of chronic heroin addiction. Since embracing his second chance at life, he has become a doctor of neuroscience and psychology, a lecturer at the top two universities in Ireland, a life coach, and a consultant to some of the world’s largest organisations.

Whether it's our career, our relationships, our health, or more global concerns like COVID-19, we all face challenges in life. However, this is not where our struggles lie. Our struggles lie in our reaction to these challenges, and our illusion that we can control them. While attempting to control external events is futile, we can control our response to them. This is where the good life unfolds - in the space between our external challenges and our internal response to them.

Through personal anecdotes, science, and wisdom from Eastern philosophy, Brian’s Keynote will focus on 3 key takeaways

  • Creating self-awareness into what you can and cannot control

  • Demonstrate how emotional reactions can trigger other emotional reactions and spiral out of control

  • How to pause and create space between emotionally challenging events and our reaction to them

Brian has also published his memoir, Bonus Time, launched his own business, Change is Possible, and reached millions of people with his online content at www.brianpennie.com
