National survey on youth mental strength
In 2025, we convened the UK’s first Mental Strength Taskforce to lead a ground-breaking research study — bringing together educators, youth leaders, employers, and academics to collaborate on how we define, measure, and build Mental Strength.
Nearly 4,000 young people across 28 schools took part — giving us a national picture of what’s really happening inside classrooms and communities today.
The results of the survey can be seen in this first-of-its kind report — Strengthening Young Minds: The National Youth Mental Strength Report below:
SIX-PILLAR MENTAL STRENGTH FRAMEWORK
Our research has allowed us to establish, for the first time, a clear and evidence-based definition of Mental Strength — built around six key pillars — and a practical tool to measure it.
What is Mental Strength?
Mental Strength is the ability to manage your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in a way that helps you face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.
By embedding this understanding, we can create a generation of young people equipped not only to navigate life’s challenges, but to perform, contribute, and flourish, whatever their starting point.
